TIPS TO OVERCOME THE FAVICON NOT APPEARING
When visiting an internet site or blog, have you ever ever noticed alittle icon located next to the URL (in the upper left corner)? That is what is called a favicon. Favorite Icon (Favicon) may be a small icon next to the URL, both within the address bar and within the bookmark list. Favicon can enhance your blog’s appearance, especially if you employ unique and interesting icons.
Usually favicons are 16 x 16 or 32 x 32 pixels and have a color depth of 8 or 32 bits. This little icon are often the identity of our blog, especially if the icon looks unique and different from the others.
On the Blog we are free to replace the favicon with the icon we want. But sometimes there are some problems when installing a favicon on the blogon the blog. An example is a favicon that doesn’t appear, even though the notification says that the favicon is already installed. Well, this is what I will discuss today.
There are several factors that make a favicon not appear, which is often forgotten is the SIZE. Yes, the size of the favicon to be installed on the blog is 16 x 16 pixels or 32 x 32 pixels. Because if the dimensions is quite that, the favicon won’t appear.
Some time ago my blog favicon also didn’t appear, maybe because it was too big. After I convert the size to 32 x 32, my blog favicon finally appears. So, the size of the favicon greatly influences whether or not the favicon appears on a blog / website.
Oh yeah this is often important, the favicon must have an .ICO file type and therefore the maximum size is 50 kb. That is the main requirement for installing a favicon. But what if we have an image with an extension other than .ICO and want to install it as a favicon? Can it?
The answer is of course you can. We just need to change the extension or convert the image using an online application. I will try to explain how to change the image extension using an online application. Here I use the site http://www.icoconverter.com
Here are the steps
First of all, visit Online ICO Converter
Look for the image that you want to change the extension by clicking ‘choose’.
For ‘Sizes’ select 16 x 16 only, don’t check the others.
If ‘Bit Depth’ is up to you, choose one.
Click ‘Convert’ then download the icon, usually called ‘favicon.ico’
The next step is to upload it on a friend’s blog, by clicking Dashboard >> Settings >> Layout >> Favicon. Please visit a friend’s blog, and see if the favicon works or not. If it doesn’t work, there may be an error in the image and please repeat again.
